I've been living in Kuwait for 20 days now as I'm writing this. I got one week notice from my office before being posted for a 3 months assignment here, in Kuwait. I don't want to talk much about work. I flew in via Qatar Airways which is okay, I don't know why people complain much. I have been offered either to fly either Qatar Airways, Etihad, or Emirates. Qatar arrives earlier - that's the main objective - rest longer.

In Abu Dhabi Int. Airport: Transit to Kuwait. Saw Ferrari park & F1 circuit from the window. The airport was beautiful but have to be alert, there is not many interactive information screen to show flight details. I just went straight to my gate - KIASU. |

As I arrived, I had to apply for Visa. The stamp for the Visa cost me 3 Kuwait Dinars (1KD = RM11.18), which is quite expensive. Most of the worker doesn't speak English and they couldn't care less about you. I waited while they are chit-chatting, when it is my turn, a Kuwaiti women just cut me off and they gave her service right away - double standard douchebag. Anyway, that is the way things are... Get use to find peace.
A driver pick me up with another colleague, Marissa, a Filipino who has been working in the middle east for years and she could speak Arabic fluently. I was given an apartment in Mahboula, somewhere south out of Kuwait City and about an hour drive to site in Az Zour, near Khiran City.

Tadaaa.. my apartment, cleaned once every 2 days, a lot of nothingness around me. |
|
View around the apartment. |

View from the window: It is all construction around the place. |
The apartment was fully furnished. Thank-god! I have 2 rooms - one will never be used I guess.
I'm not sure when is the exact weekend here as some have off days on Thursday & Friday and some have it on Friday & Saturday. Myself; I have a half-day off in Thursday, and a full off-day in Friday. Luckily there's a bus chartered for us to go/back to/from work and on Thursday evening to go to a large supermarket.
I had to stock my food and was surprised on how the Kuwaiti do their shopping. They will take whatever they like and literally bought 5-8 carts full of stocks. I don't want to convert to Malaysian Ringgit but I guess if I am a Kuwaiti, the food are cheap.
|
For just 5.405KD, I get my stocks as these.. Good bargain I guess? |
|
The place to buy our groceries. |
On the 1st day to work, I met a Malaysian guy - freelance, named Shuaib. Good guy, we went exploring Kuwait City together on Friday. Apparently, he never get the chance to go explore the city although he's been here for more than a month already.
|
Registered myself in a gym on the 4-th day - desperate to workout. |
Yes. I know it's kind of early to register in a gym, but after a few days I notice the area is very dusty, the drivers drive dangerously (one of hishest accident rate in the world), and my area was basically surrounded by construction and full of workers camp. I felt unsafe -
initially, I found out later that actually people here (mostly egyptian/indian/filipino) are nice people and I felt safer walking alone around Mahboula than I felt in KL city center.
I have some work to do.. I'll give some tip next time about.......
